If you are unhappy with your receding gums, Bucks County Smiles has an amazing solution. Our dentist Dr. David Faust is one of the few dentists certified to offer the innovative Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique to rejuvenate receding gums. With it, you can see stellar results in your smile!
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (abbreviated PST®) was invented and patented by John Chao, D.D.S. It is an innovative method to treat gum recession using a scalpel-free, suture-free outpatient procedure. This gum recession breakthrough treatment is also known as Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation and the “Lunchtime Gum Lift.” (The term “lunchtime” refers to how quickly the procedure can take place!)
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is called such because a small “pinhole” is made in the gum tissue with a special needle. Special patented instruments are used in PST® to gently loosen and guide gum tissue to cover the receded portion of the tooth. Collagen strips are also utilized to help regenerate and renew gum tissue.
Because no incision is made into the gums, and no sutures are needed after the procedure, the recovery is more comfortable than traditional surgical gum procedures. There is little swelling and bleeding. Patients are usually quite happy to see the almost instant improvement to their smile.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is potentially a great option for people who have suffered gum recession. Previously, the main option for restoring receded gums was soft-tissue gum grafting. The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a much less invasive process.
Some people may not be good candidates for the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, at least until periodontal disease has stabilized. Advanced bone loss may require a different approach. Also, the potential PST® patient needs to have their periodontal disease under control, i.e., no active inflammation. Behaviors like aggressive tooth brushing and teeth grinding (bruxism) must also be mitigated before attempting the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique has many advantages over traditional soft-tissue gum grafting. Unlike gum grafting, which has limitations on how many areas can be treated because tissue needs to be used, Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique has no limitations in how many teeth can be treated at once.
With its focus on building up and strengthening gum tissue with collagen, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique has seen positive results in clinical research. PST® gum restorations have shown to be stable over almost 10 years. If our patient maintains their oral health and manages their periodontal disease, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique provides much hope that gum recession can be reversed.
