If you're an adult, the prospect of wearing metal braces to straighten your teeth is likely to be unappealing. Fortunately, there is an alternative solution. Every year thousands of people opt for treatment with "clear braces," otherwise known as the Invisalign system. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable trays that gradually straighten your teeth and shift them into the proper position. If you are interested in clear braces treatment for your own orthodontic needs, Invisalign is available at our practice.
Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
You may be a candidate for Invisalign if you have unevenly positioned / spaced teeth, and problems with your bite because of this unevenness. While Invisalign is appropriate for cases of mild to moderate spacing and bite issues, severe underbites, overbites or crossbites may require the next level of treatment, which could include traditional orthodontia. Some types of misaligned teeth can be corrected with veneers. Teeth that are damaged and crooked may need to be replaced with dental implants or dentures.
Invisalign treatment takes anywhere from two to 36 months, depending on your smile's needs.
You will first have impressions taken of your teeth and mouth. The impressions help to form the basis for the development of your custom-made aligners.
Once your aligners are ready, we will dispense them during regular check-up appointments. You will need to wear each upper and lower aligner for a period of about two weeks, and then switch it out with the next set in your series. We will request that you come in periodically so we can check your progress and make any minor adjustments, should the need arise.
Invisalign aligners should be worn for most of the day and night, and should be removed only for eating, brushing and flossing.
We are Invisalign-certified, meaning we have been trained in the use of advanced Invisalign technology. Dentists who are not certified cannot offer the Invisalign system to their patients.
Benefits of Invisalign
Perhaps the greatest advantage of Invisalign over traditional metal braces is that they are virtually undetectable when worn. If you are an adult in the workplace who doesn't want to feel embarrassed by the conspicuousness of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign's discreetness is advantageous.
